A fire has caused 80-thousand dollars damage to a duplex east of Belleville’s downtown area.
Firefighters responded shortly after four o’clock yesterday afternoon after getting a report of heavy smoke coming from the upper level of a duplex on Burrel Street, off Station Street. Everyone inside got out safely, and the fire was out in 15 minutes. The cause hasn’t yet been determined.
The fire department was also out to Murney Street during the noon hour yesterday after neighbours noticed smoke coming from the back porch. The male and female occupants got out unharmed, and fire crews stopped the flames from spreading to the inside of the house.
Senior Fire Prevention Officer Dave MacMullen says damage is set at two-thousand dollars, and improper disposal of smoking materials is the suspected cause.
