A big increase in the number of meals served at the Salvation Army’s Warm Room in Belleville this winter.
Just over 59-hundred suppers were provided at the building on Pinnacle Street between mid-November and March 15th, when the program ended, 755 more than last year.
Captain Robert Burrell says 3,048 people signed up while visiting the Warm Room, an increase of about 75 from a year ago.
He says the church’s programs for the less fortunate haven’t ended with the room closing, since it runs a lunch room four days a week, offers emergency assistance to fire victims, and operates a food bank on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
