There’s delay, and progress, toward allowing limited public access on Baldhead beach, between Wellers Bay and Lake Ontario.
The good news is that local stakeholders and Federal government officials will walk the beach in May, and aerial photographs will be taken, leading to public discussions on where and how to allow people to use the beach.
The bad news is that the earliest that public access might be allowed is the summer of 2010. There’s still more investigation and clean up coming this spring and fall.
Baldhead sandspit was used as a practice bombing range the air force years ago, and is now a national wildlife area, and is off-limits to the public.
