The Quinte Humane Society has called on Belleville to help with its project to build a new animal shelter. Last night spokesperson Cheryl Lepine told city council that the shelter is in poor condition. She asked if the city could provide land for a new shelter to be built on. Mayor Neil Ellis says a land review is now underway and the animal shelter matter has been referred to staff. The city pays about 34-thousand dollars to the Humane Society for accommodating stray dogs.
