Wellington’s new arena is another step closer to being construction-ready. Prince Edward County council voted Monday to allow staff to begin the search for a project engineer and a manager. Staff were also given the green light to rezone an undisclosed parcel of land identified as a possible location for the site. Councillor Peggy Burris said she was happy the vote passed because staff hope to break ground on the project this fall. Senior governments committed $7.8 million in grants for the roughly $12-million project, hoping construction will create local jobs in the midst of a recession. Burris said it’s important the project start as soon as possible.
