Children’s Aid Societies, including the Hastings CAS, are not at all impressed with the Ontario Child’s Advocate Office.
Recently, the Child Advocate released a report which seemed to state that 90 children under the care of Children’s Aid Societies had died in Ontario, in 2007.
Children’s Aid Societies, backed by the provincial Coroners Office, say the report was badly misleading.
In fact, only 14 of the 90 deaths involved children in the care of Children’s Aid, and the coroner confirmed none of those deaths was preventable.
CEO of the Hastings Children’s Aid Society, Len Kennedy, says letters will be written to the Child Advocate, and to politicians, asking for an apology, and a correction.
