A Quinte West councillor fought to stop an increase during yesterday’s budget deliberations by the Hastings and Prince Edward Board of Health.
Councillor Craig Desjardon told the board “times are tough” and a four-point-three percent levy to the municipal taxpayers is “unacceptable.” He particularly objected to 260-thousand dollars toward a proposed building expansion. Desjardin says Quinte West departments are holding the line, but external agencies like public health are “driving up the taxes”.. The 10-point-three million dollar budget passed with only Desjardin voting against it.
