Hastings County is pushing its case to have the Provincial Offences court included in the new consolidated courthouse in Belleville.
A number of years ago the province downloaded the Provincial Offences court to the municipalities giving them the revenue as well. Now the county wants it moved to the new building along with other courts. Recently Attorney General Chris Bentley told our newsroom that was a possibility. County administrator Jim Pine has followed up with a letter pointing out that the local Trial Management Committee supports the idea. The committee says it would reduce the cost and risk of providing security to all the courts.
