A crisis at the Gleaners Food Bank in Belleville this week has caused some concern for Social Service officials.
The Food Bank has seen a 43-percent hike in the number of food hampers handed out over the same time last year, and even had to turn people away this week. Director of Social Services for Hastings-Quinte, Eric Frye, says it’s a sign of the times that the agency has been overwhelmed. He says more people should donate and/or volunteer at the Food Bank and warns “there are rough times ahead.”
