The City of Quinte West will sell itself as an alternative to Belleville as a good location for a racetrack and slots parlour. Mayor John Williams says representatives of the Ontario Harness Horse Association are frustrated with delays by Baymount in building the Belleville facility, and want to start racing in this area again. Mayor Williams says there are at least 2 other communities in the province who want the racetrack/slot license. He wants to keep the facility in the Quinte Region. It’s been reported Baymount has had trouble raising the money needed to proceed with the project on Bell Boulevard. Quinte West has City owned land available around Tremur Lake, at Wooler and Telephone Roads.
