Belleville will undertake a significant study on the frazil ice problem at the mouth of the Moira River. City council has put 90-thousand dollars in this year’s budget to allow staff to investigate the pros and cons of dredging the river at the harbour and other options. Mayor Neil Ellis says the city has to decide whether it will continue throwing 200-thousand dollars a year in the budget for ice control or come up with a better solution.. Councillor Tom Lafferty opposed the move, saying city staff has enough expertise to study the issue without paying a consultant.
