Belleville is looking at alternative methods of weed control as the provincial ban on cosmetic pesticides comes into effect this spring. The ban affects pesticides which the city had used to eliminate weeds on granular surfaces on sport fields and on sports field turf. The accepted alternative for granular surfaces, a mixture of industrial vinegar and lemon juice is ten times the cost of the pesticide. City council put 22-thousand dollars in the budget to buy seeding and raking equipment to handle weed control.
