More jobs created in Quinte and Eastern Ontario in the past year

The Quinte area and other parts of Eastern Ontario are creating jobs, unlike most of the rest of the province.

Statistics Canada says the unemployment rate in Hastings, Prince Edward, Lennox and Addington, Frontenac and Renfrew Counties last month was 6.2 per cent, compared to 6.3 per cent 12 months earlier..

Almost 216-thousand people had jobs in January, 32-hundred more than a year earlier.

Ontario’s unemployment rate jumped by 1.2 per cent to 7.2 per cent last month, and 6.6-million people were working, a drop of 14-thousand from January, 2008.
