We already have four seasons in Canada, with winter seeming like the longest, but the Quinte chapter of the Ontario Maple Syrup Producers wants to proclaim a fifth season.
Chapter president Ron Hubbs says the idea of promoting “maple season” from February to April was discussed at the chapter’s annual meeting in Warkworth.
Sugar bush activities for producers often start early this month, and pancake breakfasts and other events continue into the spring.
Hubbs says some producers are already setting up plastic tube lines in their sugar bushes, while others are waiting for the snow levels to drop before heading out.
