The province is standing firm on its regional operating model for hospitals, at least for the moment. Doctors and municipal officials say they’ll fight the proposed cuts to Prince Edward County hospital, but the Ministry of Health maintains that it’s “economy of scale” that works to save money. Spokesman Steve Erwin says Minister David Caplan “has not heard directly” from the doctors or Mayor Leo Finnegan about any plan to try to break away from Quinte Healthcare. Erwin says he realizes it’s “frustrating but it’s best to let the process go through.” He was referring to the upcoming public meetings on the proposals to make cuts at the Picton hospital as well as Trenton Memorial Hospital.
