A former Belleville man, serving prison time in the United States for child molestation, is being transferred to Canada to serve the remainder of his sentence.
The federal government, which claimed Arend Getkate poses a threat to national security, didn’t appeal a federal court judge’s ruling, so he should be back in Canada some time this winter.
Getkate’s lawyer says he is in the final stages of the transfer process, and “the next step is getting on the bus.”
He has served five years of a 30-year setence in a Georgia prison for three counts of aggravated child molestation.
