Belleville’s draft “Fire Master Plan”….a plan for the next 20-years… is obviously a “hot topic” for city council. There are the issue of career and volunteer firefighters…and the location of firehalls. Last night councillor Jackie Denyes fought for some public meetings with clear options. Councillor Denyes said it was important to have the costs in taxes as well as risk factors. She says the city can use extra volunteers instead of hiring the more expensive career firefighters. Councillor Jack Miller emphasized that the city must meet strict provincial standards as well. Council decided to hold the public meetings.
