The millions of dollars spent by the federal and provincial governments, and the City of Quinte West, to upgrade and repair the water system in Batawa has paid off.
Quinte West Public Works Director, Chris Angelo, told Council last night that just a few years ago, Batawa’s water plant was almost operating at capacity.
However, recent and ongoing upgrades to the plant and underground infrastructure has stopped huge water leaks, and the plant is now working at only 39 percent.
That difference will allow 100 more homes to be built in the hamlet, without significant additions to the water system.
