The bargaining team representing Correctional Services Workers at the Quinte Detention Centre in Napanee is asking its members to reject a government offer for a new collective agreement.
Team chair Dave Kerr says the punitive sick time provision for Ontario’s 55-hundred Correctional Officers and Youth Workers in the offer, tabled on December 24th, is totally unacceptable.
He says the government is mostly to blame for high sick time, and should do something about the causes of stress, overcrowding and deteriorating working conditions, not punish the victims .
The correctional services workers, represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union, will vote on the government offer from January 27th to 29th.
