The value of building activity in Tweed could rival that of some larger municipalities.
Chief Building Official Ken Buxton says 211 permits for projects worth 17.3-million dollars were issued last year, up from six-million dollars in 2007.
A new 128-bed nursing home still under construction is worth nine-million dollars, and the rest of the building activity was new homes, farm buildings and renovations.
Even Deseronto, where there is uncertainty because of the Culbertson land claim, had an increase in construction, with one-million-dollars in new projects in 2008, twice the amount of the previous year.
