The Executive Director of the Gleaner’s Food Bank in Belleville says it’s not an accurate reflection of the difficulties faced by families in the city.
Suzanne Quinlan says 7,066 food hampers were distributed last year, which is down from 73-hundred in 2007.
However, she says the number of new families increased by 20 per cent in November and December after a number of large layoffs were announced.
Quinlan says the Gleaner’s warehouse is full of food, and she hopes it will be enough to handle all the requests for help that come in over the winter.
