Belleville will keep its one hour free parking, but there’s concern about the abuse by some people. Some people who work in the downtown are using-up the one hour free parking meant for customers in the area. Parking chair councillor Jack Miller says the downtown business improvement area can really do little except to tell people they are abusing the program. The city could make 95-thousand dollars a year if meters were installed. The fear is that a charge would drive customers away. Council decided to leave the status quo.
