Brighton’s Mayor says it’s another reason she wanted Northumberland County-wide policing.
The idea was rejected earlier this year by most of the county’s seven municipalities, and Brighton now faces a 200-thousand dollar increase in O-P-P services in 2009, compared to this year’s cost.
Mayor Chris Herrington says Brighton would have paid two-and-a-half-million dollars less for policing had the county-wide proposal been successful..
She says Brighton council could ask the O-P-P to review next year’s projected 1.6-million-dollar cost, but doubts there is much police can do to reduce the figure.
