Belleville has decided, in principle, to look at a new twin-pad recreation complex, with the option of a swimming pool. Last night city council asked staff to prepare a report on how best to develop such a complex …and put that in the 2009 budget proposals for consideration. The Quinte Sports Centre Needs Assessment report notes that Memorial arena should be maintained for other uses, because of its historical value. The report also notes the capital cost of upgrading Memorial and Dick Ellis arenas would be the same as a new facility, about 12-million-dollars, but operating a new twin-pad operation would be considerably less.
