The good news is that the number of fatal traffic accidents in eastern Ontario is down so far this year from last year.
The bad news is that more of those deaths could be attributed to not using a seatbelt properly.
The OPP’s Kristine Rae says there were 80 traffic accident deaths last year, while so far this year, there have only been 55 deaths.
However, the number of fatalities blamed on improper seatbelt use was up this year, to 14, from 11 in 2007.
