A former Canadian soldier who served with NATO in Europe wants to build an exact replica of the Vimy Memorial in Canada, possibly near Trenton.
Bruce Stock, a member of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in the 1960’s, says the Vimy monument would be a “state of the art” interpretive centre, including other aspects of Canada’s wars and missions.
Vimy Ridge, France is where Canadian soldiers earned a hard-fought bloody victory over the Germans in World War One.
Stock says he is looking at two sites in the London-Kitchener-Hamilton triangle, and vacant land on the north side of the 4-0-1 in Trenton, and hopes the Vimy replica could be ready for the 100th anniversary of the battle, in 2017.
