A project is in the works to create a public transit system across Centre Hastings.
The present volunteer driver system for low income riders can’t handle the 718-percent increase in usage over the past four years. This was prompted by a hike in welfare clients heading to work. Social services spokesperson Tracey Logan says the idea now is to provide transit for the villages of Marmora, Tweed, Madoc and Stirling, connecting to a bus to Belleville. The social services committee has pledged 25-thousand dollars a year to the project
