Northumberland County’s Fire Services Coordinator defends how Brighton handled last week’s large fire in two chicken barns.
Questions were asked about why the Quinte West Fire Department wasn’t asked to help at the blaze that killed 25-thousand chickens at Archer’s Poultry Farms.
Northumberland Coordinator Al Mann says Brighton calls other county fire departments under Northumberland mutual aid before it contacts Quinte West.
Brighton does have an automatic aid agreement to cover a small part of Murray Ward in the city. Mann, who spoke about the issue with other Northumberand fire chiefs yesterday, also disputes some reports it took the Campbellford fire department half an hour to get to the Archer’s fire, saying it was there a lot sooner than that.
