It was quite the morning for firefighters from Quinte West.
Firefighters from Quinte West Station 5, Batawa, received a call to the eastbound 401 around 9 a.m. between Glen Miller Road and Wallbridge-Loyalist Road for the report of a transport trailer on fire.
The transport was carrying the chemical glycol, which is a hazardous material, frequently used as antifreeze in automobile cooling systems and in the manufacture of human-made fibres, low-freezing explosives, and brake fluid.
Fire Chief John Whalen says because they were dealing with a hazardous material, fire crews and other emergency personnel on scene had to take extra precautions.
The fire was a few kilometres west of the Wallbridge-Loyalist Road exit.
Stations 3 and 4 were also dispatched to the blaze for tanker support.
One lane was reopened shortly before 11 a.m. and the Ministry of the Environment arrived on scene by 12:15 p.m.
There were no injuries.
Clean up crews are also expected to the scene.
One lane is expected to remain closed while the scene is made safe for travel again.
