Fire caused at least 2 million dollars damage and destroyed a longstanding business in Marmora and Lake Tuesday morning.
Marmora and Lake, Stirling-Rawdon and Havelock Belmont Methuen firefighters responded to Bonter Marine along Highway 7 on the west side of Marmora shortly after 8 o’clock.
The steel building was fully engulfed in flames upon firefighters’ arrival.
One employee was present but escaped safely.
A passerby tried moving some ATVs away from the burning building and suffered burns to his hands. There were no other injuries.
Marmora and Lake Fire Chief Tony Brownson said there were two explosions in the building which contained ATVs, snowmobiles and a few boats, along with tools and engine parts.
There were also propane tanks, acetylene torches and various fuels, including racing fuel.
Firefighters will be on scene all day and perhaps into Wednesday.
Chief Brownson says the investigation into the cause will begin with a focus on an area around a furnace, adding the fire’s cause is not considered suspicious.
Bonter Marine is a Polaris dealership.
