It was a hard night’s work for three local fire departments as they kept a house fire from spreading to neighbours’ homes in Stirling-Rawdon Tuesday night.
The house at 1038 Salem Road, just southwest of Ivanhoe, was fully engulfed in flames when Stirling-Rawdon firefighters arrived around 7:30 p.m. The house was destroyed.
Centre Hastings and Marmora and Lake fire departments provided tanker support.
No one was home at the time of the fire, but an unknown number of pets perished in the flames. No one else was injured.
Stirling-Rawdon Fire Chief Derrick Little says two propane tanks exploded and and there was a large grass fire around the house. Firefighters managed to contain the fire damage to the one property.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
