Keep writing MP Neil Ellis, the Minister of Transport, CN, and the company Greenergy if you oppose CN’s plans to build a Flammable Liquids Bulk Storage Facility on its rail yard in Belleville.
That’s the main message from Belleville’s Fire Chief Mark MacDonald in a report that city council will see at its meeting Monday.
There is hopeful news in the Chief’s report. After strong opposition was voiced to the plan at council’s November 27th meeting, CN has told the Chief that it and Greenergy are now reviewing the proposal again, adding they want to cooperate with local municipalities.
However, there’s no guarantee the project won’t go forward.
Council and many residents worry about serious damage to persons and property and to the environment should a major disaster occur at such a facility which would be located quite close to residential and industrial areas in the city.
