The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic School Board says there could be school closures if unionized support workers do go on strike next week.
More than 500 educational assistants, maintenance and clerical staff within the board are represented by CUPE and the union says a strike will start on Monday if a deal isn’t reached by Sunday night.
The school board says a number of factors will be considered an in any decision to close the school including the safety and supervision of students, medical supports and care, safe operation of water and sanitation systems, conditions of classrooms and school buildings, and more.
The board is also reminding parents that the strike is related to central bargaining and it does not make any decisions about stopping the labour disruption.
A letter will be sent home with all students tomorrow to give parents more information on the next steps, should a strike be called.
