The Hastings Prince Edward District School Board will see their top earners earn more, but not from their own doing.
The Director of Education and four superintendents (Laina Andrews, Colleen DeMille, Nick Pfeiffer, Cathy Portt) within the HPEDSB will see their pay jump an average of five percent
It has to do with provincial legislation, an act called the Broader Public Sector Executive Compensation Act, which was approved in 2014.
It affects school boards, hospitals and post secondary institutions.
For school boards, consultants looked at board operating budgets, the number of schools, projected enrollment, the number of full time teachers and superintendents within the board.
Public Board Spokesperson Kerry Donnell explains the five percent increase and how it is dived up.
In the last sunshine list posted (2016), the Director of Education Mandy Savery-Whiteway made just shy of $200,000, while the boards four superintendents averaged about $160,000.
If you were to add up the salaries of the five, it would equal roughly $840,000. With a five percent increase placed on the pay, it would move to $882,000. If all five staff got an equal share of the salary increase, it would be $8,400 in increased salary, over the 2016 numbers.
Donnell says the Board of Trustees will have the final say on what the Director of Education and the Superintendents will see in the increase.
The Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic District School Board will also see the identical five percent increase
