Nick Paul had the winner in the fifth round of the shootout as the Belleville Senators beat the Manitoba Moose 4-3 Friday night.
In a wild shootout, Belleville (3-4-0-1) got goals from Daniel Ciampini, Gabriel Gagne and Ethan Werek, but each time the Moose (4-3-0-1) tied the game. Paul finally got the game-winner before Andrew Hammond stopped Jack Roslovic to secure his first win of the season.
In regulation, Belleville got goals from Erik Burgdoerfer, Ben Sexton and Gagne while Buddy Robinson scored twice for the Moose and Chase De Leo got his first of the season. Hammond was once again fantastic in the Sens goal as he made 35 saves while Eric Comrie stopped 24 shots.
Trailing 2-1 heading into the second, the Sens left the period with a 3-2 advantage as Ben Sexton tied things up with his first goal of the season at 10:34 before Gagne notched his third goal of the season at 14:48 after poking home a fantastic centering pass by Francis Perron.
Manitoba opened the scoring in the first period at 8:47 through Robinson before the Sens replied at 12:00 as Burgdoerfer got his second of the season on the power play.
Robinson’s goal at 15:01 gave the hosts a 2-1 lead after twenty minutes.
De Leo tied the game with 2:14 to play in regulation to send the game to overtime, where the Sens had the best opportunity to win the game as Jim O’Brien was denied by Comrie on a breakaway.
The two teams will battle again tonight at 8 p.m. Jack Miller will have the call on CJBQ 800 at 7:50 p.m.
