A group of residents at a Turnbull Street social housing building, which was damaged by fire last year, says they want to return home and are being ignored by Hastings County staff.
Residents have been displaced since the fire in November 2016 and haven’t been able to move back in, even though they claim renovations and repairs are finished.
One resident known as Doc tells Quinte News it’s unacceptable for residents to be left out for almost nine months.
He says Hastings County officials haven’t been very forthcoming with information on when they might be able to return.
Meanwhile, Hastings County’s Director of Community and Human Services Erin Rivers tells Quinte News the process has been delayed a number of times because the scope of damage is so broad.
She adds that her department is trying to get approval for a new fire alarm system in the building, before a concrete move-in date is set.
She says, as far as the county is concerned, residents are being taken care of until then.
