The world’s largest maker of wind turbines could be the next green giant to set up shop in Ontario, and the Quinte area could be in the company’s sights..
Industry sources say officials from Denmark-based Vestas were in Ontario last week to size up local infrastructure and potential sites for manufacturing, which would be geared to making offshore and onshore wind turbines for the Canadian and American markets..
Sites in Quinte, Hamilton, Niagara and Kingston are among those being considered. Meanwhile, Trillium Power is expected to announce Vestas will be the exclusive supplier of up to 740 turbines for four offshore wind projects it wants to develop in the Great Lakes. The first project will be a 710-megawatt wind farm in Lake Ontario, south of Picton.
