It truly is the gift that keeps on giving.
Wednesday night, 100 Plus Women Who Care Quinte celebrated its one year anniversary at the Greek Banquet Hall in Belleville by giving yet another present to a deserving local charity – The Hastings Prince Edward Canadian Mental Health Association.
An estimated $17,800 was raised by 300 members casting 178 votes for the CMHA’s suicide bereavement program.
CMHA Executive Director Sandie Sidsworth who provides grief counseling two days a week to family members suffering from the loss of a loved one said the program has really touched a need in the community they didn’t expect. She said the donation will go towards suicide bereavement support and programming including intervention as the agency relies on grant support for funding.
“When a gift like this comes through the door, you can’t even process it yet,” Sidsworth beamed.
A cheque presentation with exact figures will be presented at a later date.
Over the past year 100 Plus Women have raised over $63,000 for four local charities: The Quinte West Youth Centre, Bridge St. United Food Ministries, Links to Learning Resource Centre and 3 Oaks Foundation.
