There was a devastating chain of events near downtown Tweed early this morning (Saturday).
Shortly before 4 o’clock, a tractor trailer travelling Highway 37 into the downtown veered off of the road and hit a tree, which
hit a hydro pole causing a transformer to explode, waking up many people on the south side of town.
The transport, carrying a load of fruit, caught fire, and shortly thereafter, a large older 2 storey wood frame house nearby
caught fire.
A man and his dog living in that house escaped without injury.
Both the transport and house were completely destroyed by the raging and smoky fire.
A home on one side of the burning house suffered some damage. The residents of that house were not home at the time.
Tweed firefighters responded, and soon called in the aerial ladder truck from the Centre Hastings Fire Department.
The fire was under control by 5:30 and a cleanup is underway.
