The CAO in Brighton says trying to clean up a contaminated industrial property at 93 Prince Edward Street is proving to be a challenge.
Bill Watson was addressing a concern from Jake DeGroot of Premier Tech Biotechnologies, who says the company he works for can’t expand because of contamination on the neighbouring former Cooey Metals property.
Watson tells Quinte News there’s somewhat of a tug-of-war between the Ministry of Environment and the municipality, because the property’s owners can’t be located.
DeGroot also told council that other businesses nearby are also being affected and a recent ministry report recommends “immediate remediation and ongoing monitoring” of the property.
Watson says he’s doing his best to get the MOE to the table.
