The Ontario Health Coalition claims the closure of the community medical laboratory in Napanee was a result of the power of three multinational corporations.
The O-H-C was able to, after a two-year Freedom of Information battle, get documents showing increasing privatization and consolidation of the province’s community medical laboratory services.
Lifelabs, Gamma Dynacare and C-M-L controlled 93 per cent of Ontario’s 564-million-dollar community lab market in 2006, up from 43 per cent in 1985.
The Napanee lab closed several years ago.
