The City of Belleville and an unknown hockey entity have signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
Quinte News has learned the two agreed to the news recently, which takes a possible partnership to the next level.
Friday morning, Belleville Council had a closed door meeting and a source tells Quinte News, the discussion surrounded the Memorandum of Understanding.
The city has requested drawings for infrastructure renovations to the Yardmen Arena. If approved, council would spend up to $7 million on a new ice pad (likely NHL size), new boards, glass and a chiller. Installations could begin as early as March, 2017. Drawings for the work are expected in council’s hands by the end of June.
One source to Quinte News suggests a professional hockey team is talking with the city, however that has not been confirmed by municipal officials.
The non-disclosure agreement the two have signed will now be extended until the end of May.
