Thomas Martin is being remembered by his family and friends as a warrior with an infectious smile that could light up any room.
The 11-year-old Belleville boy died early Monday morning at Sick Kid’s Hospital in Toronto after a two-year battle with a rare primary brain tumour, Gliomatosis Cerebri.
His mother, Charlene Mcintee, posted in the Thomas Martin support group on Facebook that he had died this morning.
“With a very heavy heart I’m sad to say our warrior has passed away. Thank you everyone for your love and support. You were our sunshine we will miss you so much.”
One of Thomas’ best friends Ryan Kelly said he always wanted everyone to smile along with him.
Thomas had recently nominated Kelly for the Toyota Wishmaker contest (which he won) for his continued support in spearheading fundraisers for him and his family.
Over the past two years supportive community members have hosted a variety of events such as a zombie day, concerts, barbecues and yard sales to help Thomas’ parents.
Kelly said Thomas would like to thank everyone for all the love and support that Belleville has shown him and his parents.
“To everyone that helped Thomas he is sending a big hug and smile to them,” Kelly said.
Kelly said it will be part of Thomas’ legacy to always be happy, cherish the time you have with your loved ones and those you meet in your life.
