Belleville city council will be asked to support a wide-ranging discussion on the pros and cons of a basic income for all Canadians.
Kingston council passed a resolution asking that federal, provincial, and municipal governments start discussing a guaranteed basic income seriously.
In it’s long and detailed resolution, Kingston council says the number of poor people is growing across the country, and something should be done to provide a decent standard of living for everyone.
Its resolution is being sent to municipalities and other organizations for support.
Belleville council meets tomorrow afternoon at 5 o clock at city hall.
