Explosions at a townhouse complex in Trenton have sent a young man and woman to Trenton hospital with serious burns and other wounds. The man has since been taken to a burn unit in Toronto.
The explosions happened around 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Reports indicate flames were seen in the basement of a townhouse at 24 Annwood Court.
Communications from the scene indicated butane tanks were located in the basement of the residence.
Also unconfirmed reports indicated drug making equipment was said to be present.
The low-rental townhouse was heavily damaged with the first floor collapsing in to the basement.
Nearby residents escaped safely, but the explosions bowed the building and structural engineers will inspect the three unit townhouse tomorrow (Monday) before people are allowed to return to their homes.
Damage is estimated at $250,000.
The Ontario Fire Marshall’s office has been called in to investigate, and OPP will seal the building off.
Annwood Court is located west of Front Street of off Briardale Boulevard in north Trenton.
