The City of Quinte West has signed a Fire Dispatch Services agreement with St. Catharines Fire Service.
As of September 19, the St. Catharines Service is providing 24/7 emergency call-taking and dispatch services to Quinte West, taking over from Belleville Fire and Emergency Services.
This will not affect Quinte West’s access to 911 phone services.
Operationally, SCFS will support Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services with the latest advancements in dispatch technology to improve the responsiveness and efficiency of the city’s services into the future.
St. Catharines’ system meets the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission’s Next Gen 911 (NG 911) requirements.
“Our dedicated team of first responders is always ready to serve, and this new dispatch service will help us respond even more effectively and efficiently in emergency situations,” says Quinte West Fire Chief John Whelan. “We look forward to working closely with St. Catharines Fire Service to ensure the highest level of service for our residents.”
Belleville previously stated it would be getting out of the dispatch business due to the costs and personnel associated with transitioning to Next Gen 911 technology.
Peterborough will be providing dispatch services for Belleville starting next year.
